Uptopian choices

We have always worked for utopia
We as in, humanity as a whole
We work for times of plenty
Our dream sequences talk of
A heavenly garden where
Every kind of fruit is available
And sweets grow from trees
The lightest chiffon and the softest wool
Are floating around for you
And now that we have
Actually achieved that plenty
We never knew there were
What evils would follow it

The supermarkets full of
The rarest of rare seasonal fruits
Available at any time of the year
But would you like to eat them every day?
SHOULD you eat them every day?

Hundreds of thousands of universities
That teach excellent courses
But why should you leave home
For further studies
If you already have everything you need?
Why should you work for education, for health
For the betterment of your society,
When everything is already
As good as can be?

Indulgences, indolences
The making of mountains
Out of molehills

Just as example: what, exactly,
Is the point of putting on
A hundred coats of lipstick or nail polish
And putting it up on youtube
For everyone to see?
And coming to youtube
What exactly is the point of
Videos of popping pimples?
Or of getting ticks out of sheepskin?
And of making playlists of disgusting
“satisfying” stuff
And getting people addicted to it?

Oh my god, that is where
Humanity is now
THIS is our satisfaction
Because we have run out of things
That even mean anything

Not only spoiled for choice
But also spoiled by choice, we are
How will we find our direction
When all around is the same?

Confidences

The days when
You would treasure

A warm moment
When you glow from within
Or a scary one
Which made you tremble

So that at the end of the day
You share it With the one
Who understands and responds
The way you need to hear

Or write long, meandering letters
Because you would not survive
Without sharing What touches you

Those days are over
Those People are gone

And Now like a battered earth
After hours of thundering rain
You let it pass
Veer and shringaar
Haasya and karuna
Vibhatsaand adbhoot
And With nowhere to keep them
Nothing to hold them
You let everything pass
Without registering
On your mind and heart

It comes and goes
Without making you pause
Without changing you
In the least

You cannot even manage
The expected "oh!"

You only watch from afar
Disenchanted disengaged

But you know
That you are only alive
As long as you feel...

There be

Only two modes in life
Blinding panic
Or meaningless vacuum

Glut

As We drive by a village of sugarcanes,
A delicious smell wafts into the air
Like sweetest sweet potatoes
Being fried in butter

The smell is So rich
That my soul fills up on it

It is So delicious, like mother's milk
I am satiated Just by the smell
It lulls me, not to sleep But to comfort
And i am inspired
To start the day on bright note

I am told it is
Sugarcane being crushed into treacle

Pervasive as it is, it is also very mild
And if u don't pay attention
U don't even know its there

And the city senses
That have been desensitised by
A glut of strong perfumes
would never even notice

I wonder what it means to be human
when all our senses have been glutted
by a constant stream of sensations
each battling to be
more sensational than the other

Color used to mean beauty
A way of imbuing nature's variety
into yourself
It took months to create a fabric
and maybe years to dye it
the color you want
and gold and silver
lent a little bit of glamour
to what you wore
And now we see so much of it everywhere
that colors look garish
and i would rather dress
in neutrals
whatever happened to the way
the sight of color lifts your spirits

there were days when
it was a treat to have something
And sweet was not the showy
Strong flow of sugar
But the mild, intoxication of honey
Or mangoes or jackfruit
That doesn't leave
A bitter taste in the mouth
But grow sweeter as you suck
Or at most maybe
Treacle or jaggery
once a year, dipped in tea
and now that I have sugary treats
for breakfast, lunch and dinner
no wonder I grow indulgent

but the biggest strain is perhaps
not on my eyes and noses and tongue
but on my brain
it takes days, months, years
to digest a thing of wonder
and here we see hundreds eveeryday
on television and on internet
and each learns from the past
and becomes more and more sensational
i wonder how long my brain can handle it
before it bursts

If you question your thoughts
Then you are obviously sane

Wake up
And.stop pretending to be high
So that you have an excuse
For bad behaviour
