why we need gods

because we need answers
of things beyond comprehension

because we want to hope
our loved ones are still around us

because we want forgiveness
when the sin is too great
to be forgiven by a mere mortal

because we want to believe
there is somthing greater than us
there is some purpose to life
some method to the madness

because we want to believe
that the world is fair
that those who suffer in it
must have a reason to do so
and those who get the larger share of the cookie
must have paid their dues before

because we want to be grateful
for things that accept no gratitude
