Uptopian choices

We have always worked for utopia
We as in, humanity as a whole
We work for times of plenty
Our dream sequences talk of
A heavenly garden where
Every kind of fruit is available
And sweets grow from trees
The lightest chiffon and the softest wool
Are floating around for you
And now that we have
Actually achieved that plenty
We never knew there were
What evils would follow it

The supermarkets full of
The rarest of rare seasonal fruits
Available at any time of the year
But would you like to eat them every day?
SHOULD you eat them every day?

Hundreds of thousands of universities
That teach excellent courses
But why should you leave home
For further studies
If you already have everything you need?
Why should you work for education, for health
For the betterment of your society,
When everything is already
As good as can be?

Indulgences, indolences
The making of mountains
Out of molehills

Just as example: what, exactly,
Is the point of putting on
A hundred coats of lipstick or nail polish
And putting it up on youtube
For everyone to see?
And coming to youtube
What exactly is the point of
Videos of popping pimples?
Or of getting ticks out of sheepskin?
And of making playlists of disgusting
“satisfying” stuff
And getting people addicted to it?

Oh my god, that is where
Humanity is now
THIS is our satisfaction
Because we have run out of things
That even mean anything

Not only spoiled for choice
But also spoiled by choice, we are
How will we find our direction
When all around is the same?
